Telltale set a trend when they introduced their Walking Dead video game based on the comics (check out my review of episode 1 here). Activision is following that trend by announcing a fist person shooter based on the TV show.
Who will you play as? Daryl motherfucking Dixon. You will be surviving as Daryl who is traveling with Merle towards the supposed safety of Atlanta. You will be able to choose whether to fight the zombies head on, or avoid them using stealth tactics (hopefully both options involve crossbowing a few zombies in the face). There will be decision making aspects to the game, including interactions with other characters, that Activision promises will have a large effect on gameplay.
So, when can you raise your crossbow against the hordes of undead? Sometime in 2013. A more specific date is not yet set but you can find updates, as well as the first trailer, on the game’s website.
I figured that after a game based on the comics came out it would only be a matter of time before one was released for the show. I was a bit skeptical when I first saw the announcement as there are many aspects to the show I dislike that I think would translate badly into a game. My worries were immediately put to rest when I found out it focuses on Daryl (the main reason I still watch the show). If done well this game will be freaking awesome.
