Nintendo has always been behind the curve when it comes to online anything. It seems that they are trying to catch up finally now with adding an online community of sorts to the Nintendo Wii U. During a video that was shown at Nintendo Direct (the Pre-E3 show) a user uses the GamePad to consult a GameFAQs-like service, at the same time his friend is monitory from his phone.
The latter part is actually refreshing, with Nintendo not being a company that likes to branch out past their own devises.
There was also a video conference type thing that seemed very much like Skype. Also shown was the ability to share files such as picture with friends in conversations as Miis.
