Christian Bale has reportedly said numerous times that the third installment of Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Night” Batman trilogy would be his last. However as of recently it seems that maybe Bale is not quite ready to hang up the Bat suit after all.
These movies have been huge for the Batman franchise and fans have had a hard time letting go (myself included). The Dark Knight Rises, which is out this summer is said to be the last of the dynamic duo that is Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale and Bale is held to the idea that this is the end and that there is no hope for a fourth film, last November when the movie wrapped stating “Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris (Nolan) — that will be the end of that Batman era.”
However, it seems all hope is not yet lost, in an interview with Empire magazine the actor leaves a very small opening for a chance for him to make another movie. He tells the publication, “My understanding is that this is the last one. I think it’s appropriate, I think it’s going out at the right time. But … if Chris came to me with a script and said, ‘You know what? There is another story’ then I would love the challenge of making a fourth one work.”
As promising as that might sound, Christopher Nolan doesn’t seem like he is anymore on board than before saying, “What drew me to Batman in the first place was Bruce Wayne’s story, and that he’s a real character whose story begins in childhood. … That, for me, became a three-part story. And obviously the third part becomes the ending of the guy’s story.”
I have to say, I would love another Batman film from both of these guys. I would love to see The Riddler and I still believe after seeing Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that he could make a great version of that character.
