Electronic Arts has recently released it’s own “indie bundle” which include six games that are developed under the EA Partners program.
The EA indie bundle (which is on Steam) will feature six games for roughly $21 or you can buy each game separably. The six games are Deathspank and Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue (Hothead Games), Gatling Gears (Vanguard Games), Shank and Shank 2 (Klei Entertainment) and Warp (Trapdoor Inc.). The sale goes until May 9.
As surprising as this is, there are of course two camps forming about this whole deal. There are those that are defending EA and then there are those that are bashing on EA. Among those doing the bashing is Markus “Notch” Persson of Mojang, accusing EA of “attempting to ruin everything,” following up saying that “indies are trying to save gaming …” On the side of the defenders you do those such as Halfbrick Studios’ Ryan Langley said he didn’t have a problem with it: “EA’s got a bunch of things to be grumpy about, but this isn’t really one of them.”
Probably the best quote those comes from Dev Mike Bithell, who effectively summed up the “controversy” with his own tweet stating, “so… did twitter decide who’s indie and who’s not in the end? Is there a list somewhere I can get hold of?”
How do you feel about all of this? I personally see it only as a win for gamers. I will now be picking up my copy of Warp.
