Shadows of the Damned is awesome. That is the last game Shinj Mikami worked on where he served as executive producer with Grasshopper Manufacture. Before that he was the director of Vanquish (2010) with Platinum Games. Before that he was the director of God Hand (2006) with Clover Studio. Before that, executive producer and co-writer of Killer7 (2005) with Grasshopper and before that he was the director of Resident Evil 4 (2005). What is the point of that little game-ography for Mikami, you ask? I just wanted to point out how long it has been since the guy who helped pioneer survival horror games has made a survival horror game.
After Shadows of the Damned Mikami went off and formed his own game company, Tango Gameworks. About seven months after that Tango was acquired by ZeniMax, the parent company of id Software and Bethesda Softworks. Since then we haven’t heard anything about Mikami’s next game, which he today he announced was codenamed “Zwei” in an interview he did for Famitsu.
“Zwei” will be a survival horror game. Mikami, who is serving as executive director, said that he wanted the game to be able to meet players’ expectations and he felt that the genre he is known for would be the best genre to do that. There was also apparently some push from ZeniMax for him to make “Zwei” survival horror.
While planning for the game began in early 2010, when he founded Tango, the game is still in the early stages of development. Mikami said that the game will probably be coming to HD consoles, but the game’s platform isn’t final. Since the game is still early in the dev cycle Mikami is still looking for staff to help with the game. He says he’s particularly interested in talented programmers.
In the Famitsu story there were some image boards for the game which haven’t been released online yet. We will be posting them as soon as we get our hands on them.
