For the uninitiated, like myself, Library War began as a series of light novels. Set in the far off and distant future of 2019 the Japanese government passed a law that let them confiscate and censor any media they believed could be hazardous to the Japanese people. So the set up special groups of cops to go around and enforce this new law. But local governments didn’t agree with them so they start defense forces to keep their books safe and protect libraries. The four novel series has been adapted into a manga, two internet radio shows a 12 episode anime in 2008. Now it’s getting a movie.
Library War: The Wings of Revolution, which is being directed by Takayuki Hamana (who directed the anime) and written by Takeshi Konuda (who wrote the anime), will have the same cast as the anime and presumably everyone else who worked on the anime will have their same jobs. There isn’t anything said about the plot of the film; if it will be a movie remake of the anime, a continuation or something else. But Japanator has two trailers, so check them out.
Library War: The Wings of Revolution premieres in Japanese theaters June 16th.
