Death's Door Prods

PAX East: Deadlight (Xbox 360)

Set in the 2D environments of the early 1980’s where the city streets are filled with abandoned cars, buildings are boarded up, and the only form of life seemingly still alive are the shadowed-zombie hoard that have taken over the city of Seattle. Players take control of a male protagonist who must escape in order to survive another day by any means possible. Whether it be downed electrical wiring, manipulation of a parking garage that’ll send hoisted cars crashing down onto the undead, or using weapons to their disposal (sledge hammers, axes, etc.). Getting the hell out of there is essential to staying alive.

The gameplay to Deadlight is very reminiscent to such games that came before: Flashback and Out of This World. Both of those games offered a unique story and gameplay, while producing CD quality sound and imagery. Very revolutionary at the time which sparked a fervor of ideas and interest in the video game medium. Today, those ideas are still being used in other such titles as Epic Games’ Shadow Complex (2009).

Deadlight is slated for later this summer  on the Xbox Live Arcade.
