Nintendo revealed in a recent Pokémon Direct stream that 2016 will see the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon for the 3DS. These will be the first full-fledged releases since X and Y in 2013, but little more has been revealed beyond the logos and a couple quick shots of artwork in progress.
One potentially big piece of the pie for fans however is the also announced the immediate re-release of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow on the Virtual Console. Not only will this make the games playable on modern systems, but players will also be able to transfer captured Pokémon into Sun and Moon via the Pokémon Bank!
The release in 2016 is purely intentional as this is the 20th anniversary of the series since its debut on the original Gameboy in 1996.
