Minecraft is a game all about creativity. A limitless world where you can make anything you can think and then have it blown up by a cactus that hates you, your creation, and everything else that is not blown up. So it kind of doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to have a game be very narrative focused and presumably without the creative aspect that drew people in in the first place. But here we are.
Mojang recently announced that they are teaming up with The Walking Dead developer Telltale Games to make Minecraft: Story Mode, an episodic game set in the Minecraft world featuring characters, unlike Minecraft proper. The game is being made in collaboration between Mojang, Telltale, and members of the Minecraft community to make it “as Minecrafty as possible.” The story will not be about Steve, the closest thing to a main character the game has, according to the announcement…
We’re not intending on creating an “official” story for Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail. It will be a cool game.
Minecraft: Story Mode is coming in 2015 for Xboxes, PlayStations, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android.
