Marvel has announced that actor Blair Underwood will portraying Dr. Andrew Garner, the ex-husband of Melinda May, when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns in March. His role will no doubt help counteract an abrupt dip in the show’s “Manly Black Guy” quota that occurred during the midseason finale.
Underwood has previously been noted for his roles in L.A. Law, Dirty Sexy Money, The Event, and the shortlived Ironsides reboot. He has also previously appeared alongside Clark Gregg in his recurring role on The New Adventures of Old Christine, in which he played a teacher that every other character was attracted to, including Clark Gregg… this could be an intriguing plotline for Coulson.
