Shokugeki no Souma to get Anime Treatment in 2015

It was revealed in issue 49 of Shonen Jump that Yuto Tsukada and Shun Saeki’s ecchi cooking manga would be animated and released in the coming year. Shokugeki no Souma a.k.a…. (wait, seriously? I’m not calling it that. What do you mean cut my pay? You don’t pay me! ugh, fine) a.k.a. Food Wars tells the story of Yukihara Souma as he works for his father at the special-of-the-day diner that they run. Souma strives to surpass his father’s cooking talents and to help him complete this goal (and also because he got better paying work out of country) his father enrolls him in the super prestigious and elite culinary school, Tootsuki Academy, which prides itself on its 10% graduation rate.

This will be one that I’ll be watching for in the year to come. I very much enjoy the manga, and despite being an ecchi series, never goes way over the top with things by making the fanservice seem out of place. Besides that, the series as a whole is well written, and extremely well drawn. I hope that there isn’t a shift of focus towards the fanservice in the animation, but I will have to wait to see how it turns out.
