A surprising new game was announced last week that should excite Pokéfans around the world: Pokkén Tournament! Bandai Namco, developers of famous fighting series Tekken and SoulCalibur, are working on the game which should see release in arcades across Japan sometime in 2015 and there’s a teaser trailer in the wild that gives just a taste of what’s in store.
The trailer itself shows a Machamp and Lucario going head to head in an outdoor farm setting with special attacks and flashy visuals that fall in line with the usual Tekken style. The creators do say that they aren’t technologically limited to such characters, making it safe to assume we will see fan favorites like Pikachu and many other bizarre combinations in the final release.
The game was revealed during a livestream event by the CEO of the Pokémon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara, as well as Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada and SoulCalibur producer Masaaki Hoshino. They did unfortunately state that there will not be any Tekken cross-over characters…
Pokkén Tournament is one of many fighters in development, like Tekken 7 and the long awaited Tekken X Street Fighter, so look forward to many more details to come out over the next months as there’s plenty to talk about.
