Edgar Wright Leaves Ant-Man as Director

Marvel Studios is currently in the middle of Phase Two of their cinematic universe, which will wrap up with Avengers: Age of Ultron next year. After that we’ll be moving into Phase Three, which kicks off with one of the weirder Marvel movies, Ant-Man. When it was announced that Ant-Man was getting a movie and that it would feature both Ant-Men, I was surprised. Then when it was announced Edgar Wright of the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy would be directing it, I got excited. Now I’m a little less excited.

In a joint announcement from Wright and Marvel Studios, Wright will be leaving Ant-Man as director. The statement said that the reason for his departure was “due to differences  in their vision of the film.” Marvel is currently looking for a new director and are apparently “zeroing in on a new filmmaker” according to Variety, but no one is negotiations yet. But Marvel did say that they will be announcing the new director soon.

However, the decision for Wright to leave was mutual. Wright’s script, which he co-wrote with Attack the Block‘s Joe Cornish, is still being used for the movie and his leaving doesn’t affect the film’s release date.

Ant-Man is set for release on July 17th, 2015.
