We all knew this was coming. Once it was announced Batman would be in the Man of Steel sequel, it was goddamn obvious that Warner Bros. was building up to a Justice League. And we all knew they wouldn’t learn from their mistakes and keep the same creative direction on it that fucked up Man of Steel.
This week Warner Bros. confirmed a Justice League movie is currently in production and that Zack Snyder would be returning to direct. Henry Cavill is set to return as Superman, with Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot keeping their roles as Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively. Greg Silverman, president of worldwide production at Warner Bros., said…
It will be a further expansion of this universe. ‘Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.’
A script is in development, and the movie isn’t likely to come out until after 2018. At this point, we aren’t sure what other heroes could be joining the main trinity in the Justice League movie. Aside from the recently announced Cyborg, being played by Ray Fisher, none of the other Leaguers have been mentioned, and Silverman would not comment on the matter.
Silverman and Toby Emmerich, president of Warner Bros.’ New Line Cinema label, said that the studio is also developing films based on other DC and Vertigo properties that won’t be connected to the League movie, including Shazam, the Metal Men, 100 Bullets, and Fables. They also said that while there are currently no plans for a Wonder Woman solo movie, studio execs are warm to the idea, with president of worldwide marketing Sue Kroll saying…
That is our hope. With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.
No release date has been set for the Justice League movie. Batman vs. Superman is set for release on May 6th, 2016.
