Back in the early 90s, Marvel started a line of comics called Marvel 2099. It featured future versions of classic Marvel characters, and it started, as most things do, with Spider-Man. But even though the line ended in 1998, Spider-Man 2099 is still around, having been brought back recently in Superior Spider-Man. It looks like he won’t be going away in the near future, either, as Marvel has announced he’ll be getting his own series.
Written by original Spider-Man 2099 writer Peter David and drawn by Fearless Defenders artist Will Sliney, the new series will follow Miguel O’Hara as he is stuck in the present day Marvel Universe, trying to stop his horrible future from happening. He will also have to deal with present day Spider-Man, who, when this series comes out, will be Peter Parker again. So there’s that.
According to David, the story will start out with someone trying to rip O’Hara out of the timeline. After that we have Miguel hunting down people selling black market Spider Slayers and all the (probable) bullshit coming in Spider-Verse. But over all of this will be Miguel trying to deal with Liz Allen and Tiberius Stone, his grandfather. David said…
Miguel is going to be endeavoring to reform Tiberius Stone; to make him into someone who cares about other people and might actually do a better job of raising Tyler Stone and thus make Miguel’s life easier. Not to mention that he will try to exert influence over what sort of company Alchemax develops into.
Spider-Man 2099 will be launching this July.
