Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds are two pretty busy guys. Reynolds’ new thriller Buried comes out this year, and he has Green Lantern and Deadpool for next year. Cooper starred in The A-Team and The Hangover (which already has a sequel planned) and a new film for Rogue Pictures called Dark Realms. Now two of hunkiest funny men in Hollywood are teaming up for a buddy cop movie.
The script, which was apparently picked up for a $1,000,000, was written by Sheldon Turner, writer of The Longest Yard remake, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and Up In the Air. The story is supposed to have an updated Lethal Weapon feel, so I expect someone will be 3 days from retirement, someone will be suicidal, and someone will be too old for this shit. The last one will most likely be one of the fathers.
The movie is about Cooper and Reynolds, two best friend cops and partners for the San Francisco PD. They pull their fathers, who were also partners, out of retirement to help them solve a case. No word about who will play the fathers yet, though.
This was originally pitched as Blowback five years ago with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the lead. Big step up in the casting department.
No studio is set up for the movie but Neal H. Moritz, one of the producers, has his Original Films banner at Sony, which is also making The Green Hornet.
