For those who don’t know, 2013 is the Year of Luigi. Celebrating the character’s 30th anniversary, Nintendo is releasing a bunch of stuff to celebrate the under-appreciated younger brother of the company’s mascot. So far we’ve gotten three new games, Miiverse stuff, as well as a Luigi branded 3DS. We can now add one more thing to this list.
During a Nintendo Direct last week, Satoru Iwata announced that Luigi would be a playable character in the upcoming Wii U and 3DS installments of the Super Smash Bros. series. Luigi has appeared in every installment of the series so far, being an unlockable character in the original Smash Bros., Melee, and Brawl.
Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS are set for release in 2014.
