Ratchet & Clank is one of the first gaming franchises I really got into and started seriously following. I played through every game on the PS2 multiple times and even played the PSP ones. I dropped off after the series moved on to the PS3 (since I didn’t and still don’t have one) but I still kept an eye on it. You can imagine my excitement, then, when I saw this.
Insomniac Games has announced Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, a return to form for the series and the final installment of the Future series. The announcement of this game comes after a bunch of teaser images were posted on the official PlayStation Facebook and Twitter accounts showing a purple eclipse looking thing with the words, “When Worlds Collide.”
Series director Brian Allgeier told IGN during a preview that after All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault, “the time was right to come back to the core series”. While the game is returning to the classic R&C style, the setting may be a bit different, with our heroes stuck in “the scariest sector of space they’ve ever visited.” Even Allgeier said that taking things in a “spookier direction” would be fun.
Speaking of classic R&C style, one of the sticking points of the series are the weapons, and Into the Nexus sounds like it’s keeping true to form. Some of the new weapons include: the Nightmare Box, which scares enemies into running away or attacking it; the Black Hole Grenade, which picks enemies into the air spins them around the singularity; and the Winterizer, which turns enemies into snowmen while playing Jingle Bells.
Also coming to this game is the Grav Tether, a Portal Gun type thing.
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is coming to the PS3, both in physical and digital formats, this fall for $29.99.
