During Mexico City’s technology forum, TagDF, director James Cameron, while discussing his ideas about the future of filmmaking, revealed plans to adapt sci-fi manga Battle Angel Alita onto the screen in 2017. This would follow the third of the Avatar movies, with the second one currently in production set to be released in 2015.
Battle Angel Alita, released in 1990, tells the story of a cyborg found in a dump with no memories of her life before then. The original series was published by Viz in North America, while the sequel series, Last Order, was moved to Kodansha.
