Let me just start by saying FUCK YEAH!!!!! Now, on to business.
Yesterday it was announced that the cult horror classic, and one of my favorite movies of all time, is getting remade. Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Roger Tapert, the writer/director, star and producer of the original film will all be producing the remake with executive producing duties going to Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane, partners of Ghost House Pictures.
The remake is being directed by Fede Alvarez, a new director who’s only other work is a 5 minute sci-fi short called Panic Attack!. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Raimi and Tapert saw Panic Attack! and set him up to write a sci-fi script for them. Instead, he wrote an Evil Dead script along with Rodo Sayagues, Alvarez’s partner. The script is now in the hands of screenwriter Diablo Cody who was brought on to revise it.
In a statement released by Raimi, Campbell and Tapert, they said “We are committed to making this movie and are inspired by the enduring popularity and enthusiasm for the Evil Dead series. We can’t wait to scare a new generation of moviegoers using filmmaking techniques that were not available to us thirty years ago as well as Fede bringing a fresh eye to the film’s original elements.” Campbell also said through his Twitter “Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.” So, yeah. Believe, dawg!
