As soon as the announcement that EA would be making all the Star Wars games for the next few years, my immediate question was if this would mean a new installment in the Battlefront franchise. It seems that I, and other fans of the series may have something to be excited about, as EA recently teased the possibility of the much-desired Star Wars: Battlefront 3. CFO Blake Jorgenson released this little tidbit, saying ”
The opportunity to do a new Battlefront, for example, which is one of the very popular Star Wars games, or some of the other traditional games that were made, is very exciting.
While the comment was used as an “example” it is an exciting notion for fans of the series.
Jorgenson went on to say that none of EA’s upcoming Star Wars titles will be based on the upcoming movies. While EA hopes to use the excitement of the new films to drive the popularity of the games, they have no intention of making shitty, simultaneous release games based on the new films. This could also be good news for Battlefront 3, as its story would be separate from the films.
It is possible that EA will have a lot of their work done for them, as the previous development of the game, at the time being made by Free Radical was “99 percent finished” when it was cancelled. Whether this ill impact EA’s development of the potential game depends greatly om whether they can, or want to use the previous build.
EA currently has my attention, as the potential of a new Battlefront game makes my Xbox swoon.
