God, I love Japan.
In the June issue of Comic Star Earth, it was revealed that Nobunagun by Masato Hisa, whose previous works include Jabberwocky and Grateful Dead. I’d never heard of this series before I found this piece of news. Why am I bringing it up then? Well, it’s because the premise is so goddamn Japanese it hurts in the best possible way.
The series focuses on a high school girl (because it’s manga) named Shio Ogura. One day while on a school trip to Taiwan, Shio and her classmates are attacked by monsters called Evolved Invaders. The military does shit all to stop them and the day is saved by agents from the government organization DOGOO. Thanks to the magic of science, these agents are able to take the souls of famous historical figures and use them in battle. Gandhi is a barrier thing, Newton is a gravity thing, and so on. Shio, in an attempt to save a friend, awakens her own latent history powers and gets the ancient warlord Oda Nobunaga. His form? A giant fucking machine gun.
I have no idea if this series is any good or not at time of writing, but that all sounds fucking awesome. I’m definitely going to be checking out the manga of this soon. As for the anime, I’m not sure yet. We have no idea who is working on it right now, so I guess I’ll just wait and find that out before I get hyped.
