Andy Diggle Leaves Action Comics

Late last year, DC announced that Andy Diggle, writer of Snapshot and The Losers, and Tony Daniel, writer and artist of the first half of Detective Comics, would be succeeding Grant Morrison and Rags Morales as the creative team for Action Comics. But before their run has even begun, the writer has left the book.

Diggle announced on Twitter last week that he would be stepping down as writer of Superman book. It was through a long series tweets, so I’m gonna post them all in paragraphs ’cause posting that many tweets like usual would just look terrible…

Sadly, I’ve decided to walk away from Action Comics for professional reasons. It was the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make, especially with Superman’s 75th anniversary and Man of Steel on the horizon. But it was the right decision. No regrets. Onwards!

Sincere thanks to Matt Idelson for inviting me to follow Grant Morrison on Action Comics. I hope we still get to work together someday. Thank you to all the fans who’ve expressed their enthusiasm in anticipation of my run.I wish nothing but the best of luck to whichever new creative team picks up the red boots and cape.

Diggle’s first issue, issue 19, is still set for release next Wednesday, and we aren’t sure how many issues he’s actually written. But after his work has finished, Daniel will keep doing the art and will take over the writing duties.

Action Comics issue 19 will be hitting stands on April 3rd.
