Mark of the Ninja was one of my favorite games on 2012. It was fantastic in every detail, from its mechanics to its art style to its stupidly awesome story. If there was one game that didn’t need anything else, this was it. But, the folks at Klei Entertainment still wanted to give something back to the fans, so we’re getting a Criterion Collection of the game. Or something.
Klei Entertainment sent out a press release last week announcing that they will be releasing a Special Edition DLC for Mark of the Ninja. The DLC will add a new level to the game where you play as Dosan, the tattoo artist who gave you your magic ninja ink in the main game. The level will take place before the game and, as the press release says, “set the stage for the events that transpire in Mark of the Ninja.”
The DLC will also add a new play style, which will have nonlethal takedowns and some lethal/nonlethal hybrid approaches to the game. Two new items have been added as well. One of them is more focused on stealth while the other is much more direct. Both of the items and the play style will be accessible in the main game as well as the new mission.
Finally, the main game will have developer commentary nodes scattered throughout its levels. The commentary nodes will discuss different parts of the game’s creation, stories from the game’s development, some history lessons, and other BTS stuff. The commentaries will be available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Japanese.
While no firm release date has been set, the Mark of the Ninja Special Edition DLC will be coming this summer to Xbox Live Arcade and Steam. The price has not been set yet.
