With April just around the corner, one begins to think thoughts of rebirth and change and, most importantly, a new season of Anime. That’s right, this is the stuff you should be looking out for this upcoming season. (Note: this is hardly a complete list, and I encourage you to give all shows a chance, they’ll often surprise you)
Shingeki no Kyojin
The world has become a dangerous place. The final human settlement has its walls hammered on all sides by the kyojin, giant man-eating titans, but they’re kept at bay by the sturdy walls of the city. Humans have developed means to kill these beasts, but everything changes when a particularly massive titan appears and shatters the wall, allowing the smaller ones to get in. This was not how our main character, Eren, wanted to see what was outside the walls…
Based on a manga of the same name, I am definitely curious to see how this gets adapted into anime. It’s a series notorious for an “anyone can die” method of storytelling, so it will be interesting to see if they change anything to make it more palatable for a wider audience. Keep an eye out for this one, it premieres April 6.
Yondemasu-yo, Azazel-san. Z
This is the second season of the anime with the same name (minus the Z) that tells the story of the small private detective firm that uses demons to aid in their investigations. The firm only consists of two employees, the mysterious and knowledgeable detective, Akutabe, and his rather ordinary assisstant, Rinko Sakuma, and they use various contracts with demons in order to help solve cases. And it’s hilarious.
I should mention that this can be a bit of an acquired taste, due to the vulgar nature of a lot of the humour, but if you can ignore some of the less mature jokes, you will find that it’s a genuinely funny show. It premieres on April 6.
Suisei No Gargantia
This is a show that I’m looking forward to purely from its pedigree. From Gen Urobuchi (Puelli Magi Madoka Magica, Psycho Pass) comes a new sci-fi series where a young soldier is mysteriously warped from the front lines of a war against an alien species to an unknown but human populated water covered planet. Airing April 7. Here’s the trailer:
