Liam Neeson has had some kind of bizarre roles in his career. He played a scientist who had his burned off and became a superhero. He played a Jedi who looked like Jesus and cheated at dice games. He even played a God lion. Now he has a role that is the strangest of them all; He’s playing a raccoon. And no, not the one you’re thinking of.
The venerable Mr. Neeson has signed on to The Nut Job, a film by Peter Lepeniotis that is basically just Over the Hedge but with a worse cast. Neeson joins Katherine Heigl, Brendan Fraser, and Will Arnett as our main character Surly, a loner squirrel who gets kicked out of his pack (Is that the word for a group of squirrels?) and has to survive the winter in the city with a group of critters from a local park. As luck would have they are close to a nut store. So they steal the nuts… Yaaaay.
Neeson will be playing an evil raccoon, who doesn’t have a name yet, who will be trying to stop Surly and Co. from stealing all the nuts… So they all die or something, I don’t know.
Lepeniotis is real grateful that Neeson took the time to work with him. I guess being a leopard in a similarly terrible looking CGI animal movie wasn’t enough for Neeson. Lepeniotis said…
Having the distinguished Liam Neeson lend his talents as the raccoon villain is the perfect finishing touch. His contribution fulfills that dramatic need in our comedy adventure. It’s an honor working with him.
The Nut Job is set for release (hopefully) long after my corpse has turned to dust.
