Chris Cooper to Play Green Goblin in Amazing Spider-Man 2

Last month a press release was sent out confirming plot details and a casting update for Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man 2. The new addition to the cast was Colm Feore, and everyone assumed that he would be playing Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin and arch-nemesis of Spider-Man. A new report, however, is dismissing that rumor and confirming who will be behind the (hopefully) elf ears and purple Smurf hat.

THR is reporting that Chris Cooper has signed on to play Norman Osborn. It isn’t clear if he will be dawning the green and purple suit and taking to the skies in this installment or if Webb is saving that for the sequel. For those who don’t know Chris Cooper, he’s been in such films as Adaptation, American Beauty, and who can forget his outstanding role as Tex Richman in The Muppets.

Honestly, I think Feore would’ve been a better choice for Osborn. Trying to picture both of these actors in my head in the role and Feore just looks more like a Norman Osborn than Cooper does.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release on May 2nd, 2014.
