One of the games with the weirdest build up to it at the big Sony press conference was inFamous: Second Son, the third game in Sucker Punch’s really fucking awesome superhero franchise. The trailer for the game featured a new guy with new powers and a new enemy (maybe), but didn’t give any specifics. Sucker Punch has rectified that, though, as they have revealed some details for their upcoming game.
Brian Fleming from Sucker Punch took to the PlayStation Blog to give us more info on Second Son. The game is set seven years after the second game. Cole McGrath did some shit and now the world has changed. Anyone who starts to develop powers is labelled a “bio-terrorist” and handed to D.U.P (Department of Unified Protection), a government agency that was set up to stop the first two inFamous games from happening again in other cities.
This is where our hero comes in. Delsin Rowe is 24 year-old asshole in a tuque who’s lived in Seattle his whole life. One day while doing nothing in the city, a bus wrecks with people still alive inside. He goes to save them and discovers that he has powers. He has the amazing ability to control and turn into smoke. Yeah, it sounds kind of lame, but if Mortal Kombat has taught us anything, it’s that people with smoke powers can turn invisible, teleport, and burn people from the inside out by poking them in the forehead.
Anyway, after discovering this power, Delsin takes to the streets to fight the man and bring down D.U.P. Then Fleming starts quoting Ben Franklin and giving the PS4 hardware a tongue-bath.
While I’m not thrilled with how Delsin looked and acted in the trailer, I am excited for this game. I love inFamous, even though I haven’t spent a lot of time playing it, and having a new city with a whole new power set will be really cool.
