Last week it was announced that the next game coming from Grasshopper Manufacture and Suda51, the studio and director behind the No More Heroes series, will be Killer is Dead.
In the game you will play as Mondo Zappa, an executioner who uses a katana and a mysterious gun-drill-hand that he doesn’t remember getting to kill criminals. The hand thing will become more powerful as the game progresses and can absorb the blood of killed enemies. Absorb enough and you will be able to use an “Adrenalin Burst” slash attack. The blood also contains “dark matter,” which can be changed into energy.
The executioner office that Zappa works for is run by Brian Rozen, an executioner who has also been augmented and who kinda looks like Cyborg from of old Teen Titans and the current Justice League. Zappa’s boss at the office is Vivienne Squall, a British born executioner with a bunch of robo-arms on her back. There’s also Mika Takekawa, Zappa’s assistant and roommate. After something that happened in the past, she met Zappa and they started living together because she makes a damn good soft boiled egg.
The villain of the game is Victor, a Mozart-looking skeleton dude with headphones who wants to bring evil to the world through the power of music. It’s nice to have a hobby, I guess.
Suda51 has said that this game is not a sequel to a previous title of his, Killer7, but it looks like this game has taken some inspiration from that game as well as No More Heroes.
Killer is Dead is due out in Japan this summer.
