We probably reported this on a podcast at some point and just never got around to writing about it, but Sony Pictures is working on a film adaptation of Team ICO’s Shadow of the Colossus. Since its announcement Justin Marks, the fucker who wrote Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, was brought on to write the script and more recently Josh Trank, the director of Chronicle, was attached to direct. Trank is still directing but Marks has been replaced by someone with much more talent and no history of destroying video games in film form.
Seth Lochhead, co-writer of the teenage super spy-ssassin movie Hanna, has been hired to write up a new script for the adaptation. Trank will be overseeing the writing of script. From what I can tell this is not going to be a re-write of Marks’ script. This will be a completely new script. Sony must have read the original draft and saw that it was absolute balls and decided to boot him for it. I guess Sony isn’t completely evil after all.
The game, for those who don’t know, is about a young man who roams the land trying to kill 16 colossi at the behest of some voice in order to bring his lady friend back from the dead. He must really not like change.
No casting details or release date have been given for the adaptation.
