In the 90’s just about anything could get published. This is the era that gave us Rob Liefeld, insane shit like Scud, and Marvel 2099, where classic Marvel characters are put in the future as different people with some slightly different powers and equipment. I haven’t really read any of so I don’t care. But Dan Slott did, I guess, as he is saying that Spider-Man 2099 is going to be appearing in Superior Spider-Man.
Last week before Superior Spider-Man #1 came out Dan Slott, who was the writer for Amazing Spider-Man from 2008 until the end last month, tweeted at artist Ryan Stegman about “Miguel.” For those who don’t know, Spider-Man 2099’s real name is Miguel O’Hara. So Spider-fans started talking. Could Miguel O’Hara be the Superior Spider-Man?
The new Spider-Man has since been revealed, and it’s not Miguel. This tweet was a joke to bait fanboys and shit. On the day Superior Spider-Man #1 came out, Slott talked to MTV, apologizing for leading people on with his tweet. To make up for it, though, he did say this:
This is not a trick, this is not a prank. You will see Miguel O’Hara in Superior Spider-Man.
And that’s it. We don’t know how, when, or why Miguel will show or whether he’ll be friend or foe to The Spider Planner. But he’s coming, with his arm blades and sick skull costume.
