Last month it was reported that Marvel had a shortlist and other people of interest in mind to star in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy film as Star-Lord, the half-human half-alien leader of the Guardians. Those people included Garret Hedlund from TRON: Legacy, James Marsden from X-Men, and Lee Pace from Pushing Daisies… Interesting choice with that last one. Marvel has since made some choices and narrowed down the pool to three people.
The first person, someone from the original shortlist, is Jim Sturgess. Sturgess is probably best known for Across the Universe and 21, but more recently was one of the stars of Cloud Atlas. He played a Korean guy.
The second person is Zachary Levi, a new addition to the possibles. What is weird with this choice is that he has never had a leading role in a motion picture like this before and when this movie comes out he will have already played another character within Marvel’s cinematic universe. Levi will be replacing Josh Dallas as Fandral in Thor: The Dark World which is set for release on November 8th, 2013. Fandral was the guy with the fancy mustache and chin beard combo who was in, like, 10 minutes of the first movie. Levi was actually offered the part in the first movie but had to bow out due to Chuck. Now Dallas has to bow out due to Once Upon a Time. What are the odds?
The final person up for the role is… I don’t know. Marvel didn’t release the person’s name. We have no idea who it is. Marvel is keeping the unnamed actor on standby to maybe test for the part after the holidays.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set for release on August 1st, 2014.
