Angry Birds Movie is a Thing John Cohen is Producing

Okay, Angry Birds is a fun game. I’m glad we’re all in agreement on this. If you have a smartphone, it’s pretty much required that you have this game in one of its 12 trillion forms for when you’re waiting to board a plane, if you’re on a really long road trip and aren’t driving, or if you have a particularly difficult bowel movement that may take some time to work out. My point with all of that is, “Why the fuck do people keep making things set in the Angry Birds universe?!” It doesn’t have a mythology beyond, “Pigs stole eggs. Kill pigs,” so why do people keep treating it like it does?

Anyway, after the National Geographic book and the soft drink and the fucking 52 episode animated series, Rovio has decided to wring more potential money out of their property by making a 3D animated feature film. The most recent addition to the staff of the film is producer John Cohen. Cohen was the producer on Despicable Me, so you can see why he’s involved. Rovio released the following statement from Mikael Hed, the CEO of Rovio:

“John’s an exceptionally talented producer, and we’re delighted to have him join the flock. With John’s hands-on producer background and David’s expertise in establishing and running his own successful studio, these two are the dream team for making a movie outside the studio system. Both professionals have the ideal skills and vision to achieve incredible things.”

Before having John, though, Rovio had gotten David Maisel involved in this as an executive producer. David is the former chairman of Marvel Studios and also served as executive producer on the first Iron Man movie. David had this to say about John joining the crew:

“John’s experience, expertise, and passion are perfect for the Angry Birds film and I look forward to working with him to create the best movie experience for all the fans.”

The Angry Birds movie is coming to theaters in summer 2016. Ow, that hurt to write.
