Disney’s new Star Wars trilogy is a project that since its announcement is riddled with mysteries, rumors, and speculation. Recently, it was announced that writers Lawrence Kasdan (Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) and Simon Kinberg (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Sherlock Holmes) would be tackling Episodes VIII and IX, but The Hollywood Reporter claims this is not the case.
It appears that the pair will be penning universe expanding films as opposed to follow ups. Disney CEO Robert Iger said the goal is to release a Star Wars movie “every two to three years,” so it would make sense for those behind Star Wars to follow what Marvel’s doing and create a cinematic universe to the franchise.
Star Wars: Episode VII is expected to release sometime in 2015.
