We don’t know that much about the new Star Wars trilogy at this point. What we do know is that Michael Arndt, the writer of Toy Story 3, has been hired to pen Episode 7. We don’t know who’s going to direct it, who’s going to star in it, or what the plot is even going to be. For some people this is reason enough to be insanely pessimistic about the whole thing. But some hope has come in the form of writers.
Multiple sources are telling THR that Disney has closed deals with Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg to write Episodes 8 and 9 of the new trilogy. Kasdan and Kinsberg will only be writing one episode each, but we don’t know which one of them will be writing which episode.
Lawrence Kasdan has extensive history with the Star Wars series. He co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He also found the time to write the screenplay for Raiders of the Lost Ark. So we know he’s got skills at writing Star Wars. But what about this other guy?
Simon Kinberg has written a bunch of movies, including: xXx 2: State of the Union, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, X-Men 3: The Last Stand, Jumper, and Sherlock Holmes. He is also working on the script for X-Men: Days of Future Past. So yeah, take from that what you will.
