Studio Ghibli’s great, aren’t they? I mean, what anime doesn’t love their movies? Plus, quite a few people who aren’t really into anime like their films. They are a fantastic production company that make fantastic movies, including two new additions to the studios upcoming film slate.
The first film is The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu) from, big shock, Hayao Miyazaki. Based on Miyazaki’s most recent manga, The Wind Rises tells the story of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed the Japanese Army’s Zero Fighter in WWII. Also, everyone’s a pig.
The second film is Princess Kaguya Story (Kaguya-hime no Monogatari) from Isao Takahata, the writer and director of Grave of the Fireflies. The movie is based on the Japanese folktale Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, which tells the story of a bamboo cutter who finds a miniature baby girl in a stalk of shining bamboo. The tale was also referenced in Grave of the Fireflies.
