There’s still a lot we don’t know about Disney’s newest chapters to the Star Wars epic. But some news has just come from the galaxy far, far away. While George Lucas won’t have a heavy hand in the future of Star Wars, we know the story will be an original one, not based on any of the novels and comics that have been published in recent years. Most specifically, the Thrawn Trilogy.
The Thrawn Trilogy tells the story how an assassin named Mara Jade falls in love with her would-be victim Luke Skywalker and they get hitched and Luke is bummed he’s the only Jedi left. Leia and Han also are in the story, the parents of twins.
But, according to LucasFilm, none of this matters because it’s “an original story” that has also just been confirmed that Toy Story 3 screenwriter, Michael Arndt, has written a treatment for the future trilogy and is in line to work on Episode VII‘s script.
No word yet on cast (even though Mark “Luke Skywalker” Hamill, Carrie “Leia Skywalker” Fisher, and Harrison “Han Solo” Ford have all shown interest in returning) or who will be directing but Star Wars Episode 7 is still set for a 2015 release.
