Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming love letter to Japanese monster movies is apparently good. Or at least it tests good. All of the test screenings for Pacific Rim have been getting so much positive feedback that Warner Bros. has pretty much given him a blank cheque for him to make his next movie. What will that movie be? Magical Avengers.
Latino Review is reporting that del Toro is working on a project for WB called Heaven Sent. In this project del Toro will be gathering a good chunk of the supernatural DC superheroes and putting them all on one team. The team will consist of The Spectre, Swamp Thing, Constantine, the Phantom Stranger, Zatanna and her father, Zatara, Sargon the Sorcerer, Etrigan the Demon, and my namesake, Deadman.
This project is still a long ways off. DC and WB have said that after Man of Steel there won’t be another DC comic movie until the Justice League in 2015, so we have some time. Plus, the WB lawyers are currently working feverishly to get all of the rights cleared for these characters.
But if this all manages to get sorted out and actually come into existence, this will be amazing. Aside from Constantine and Swamp Thing (yes, he had one, too), none of these characters have really been shown in a wide release movie. Some of them have appeared on one of the dozens of DC shows, but never in a feature film like this. I cannot wait for this.
