There have always been weird promotions to try encourage people to play a game. But none of them have every seemed so simultaneously awesome and unnecessary as this one. The credit card company American Express is teaming up with Microsoft to pay people who play Halo 4. Cardholders in the US and the UK will be awarded coupons and credits for doing various things with their Amex cards and their Xbox.
By syncing your card to you XBL account, you will get coupons for a bunch of different stores and places, like AMC Theaters, PacSun, and Carphone Warehouse. You will also get an automatic $10 credit in the States and £10 across the pond.
By playing Halo 4 with your Amex card tied to your account, you will be given coupons and credits for unlocking achievements. If you beat the game on Normal or harder single-player you will be given $25 statement credit. That’s £25 in the UK.
Finally, the first 25 from the US and the first five from the UK to complete the campaign solo on Legendary will be entered for a chance to win a trip to E3 2013.
Now, it’s awesome because Amex and Microsoft are paying people to play Halo 4. Yeah, it sucks that it’s only available to Americans and the United Kingdom, but it’s still cool. It’s unnecessary because it’s fucking Halo 4. This game was already guaranteed to sell millions of units the second the general public heard the monks.
Halo 4 is available now for the Xbox 360.
