On a recent Anythingcast (I can’t remember which one, you’ll just have to listen to them all to find which one I’m talking about), we talked about the possibility of Stephen Colbert appearing in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy. In an interview Colbert said he went down to New Zealand to visit the set of the film. The interviewer asked him if there was going to be a cameo by him in the movies and his only response was, “Could be.” Now it seems like that “could be” has turned into a “yes,” and Colbert will be in the trilogy.
A trusted source at THR confirmed that the faux-conservative news pundit will, in fact, be appearing in The Hobbit movies. At least the last two of them, anyway. The source said that Colbert will not be appearing in the first film, An Unexpected Journey, so that means that he could be appearing in one or both of the following films, The Desolation of Smaug and There and Back Again. The source didn’t say whether Colbert will have a large or small role in the trilogy or even what character he will be playing. We just know that he will be there. And that’s pretty awesome.
