With the success of the original Borderlands and the subsequent success of Borderlands 2, I’m actually surprised a mobile game with Borderlands in the title hadn’t already been made. It seems like almost everything that was even a small success gets a game on the App Store or the Android Marketplace/Google Play Store/Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. But now they have, and I am kind of miffed because I can’t play it.
On Monday 2K Games and Gearbox, the makers of the Borderlands games, announced that a new game in the series will be coming to iOS devices later this month. Called Borderlands Legends, the game will be a hybrid of action RPGs and strategy games instead of an FPS/RPG hybrid like the main games. Players will be controlling the original four vault hunters, Roland, Brick, Lilith, and Mordecai, simultaneously as they fight all the main Borderlands enemies, from Skags to Bandits and beyond, in the new isometric game. Each character will have three action skills and six abilities, all based off of skills and abilities from the original game. The six abilities also have five levels to them, increasing their stats with each level.
Speaking of leveling, according to EW each character will have unlimited leveling abilities, meaning you can level up forever, I guess. The enemies will scale right along with you.
The gameplay will be focusing on randomly generated and objective based missions. Players will be able to purchase new guns and items before, after, and midway through each mission from Marcus’ vending machines.
The final thing mentioned, aside from boss fights but you knew there’d be boss fights, is that the game will also have the “second wind” system, where a downed player can revive themselves by killing an enemy.
Borderlands Legends comes out on iPhone for $4.99 and iPad for $6.99 on October 31st.
