The Kingdom Hearts game have been some of my favorite JRPGs. Not because of all the Disney shit, but because they keep the things I liked about traditional JRPGs and got rid of or changed all the things I didn’t like. They’ve had some really great games in the series and a really shit one or two. Now they are bundling two of the great ones and one of the shit ones together.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix is a collection game with HD remakes of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Final Mix was a Japanese-exclusive updated re-release of the original game that had some additional content. Re:Chain of Memories was the PS2 remake of the GBA game and takes place between the first and second games. It followed Sora and Riku through Castle Oblivion and introduced Organization XIII. 358/2 Days also takes place between the first and second game and followed Roxas, Sora’s Nobody, during his time with Organization XIII.
358/2 Days will be the game that will have the most work done to it. With it originally being a DS game, they will have to work around not having the second screen. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Aside from the camera and the loadout management, I don’t remember actually using the touchscreen that much.
I know it’s part of the timeline, but I really wish they had put Kingdom Hearts II in this collection instead of Re:Chain of Memories. It almost completely abandoned the mechanics of the other games and ruined all sense of game flow.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix will be available on PS3 in 2013.
