Bleeding Cool reported earlier this week that marketing agents working at Warner Bros/DC Comics went undercover into a comic book shop asking staff questions without any subtlety or pretence.
Questions were asked about how fans would feel about Christopher “the-best-at-Batman” Nolan not being involved in future superhero flicks, what fans think of Aquaman, what the strongest Justice League lineup was that would be on film, all leading up to the marketing people (one of which was reported to be wearing a “box fresh Batman t-shirt, still with the wrapping crease marks”) asking “what should DC do film wise?”
The undercover agents also mocked Marvel’s plans for Ant-Man and apparently appeared discouraged when staff members said they were enthused about the upcoming feature. They also were let down when they were told “DC should just do what Marvel did.”
The final reported question the undercover execs asked was a doozy: “What would fan reaction be to a Justice League movie with Frank Miller’s name attached?”
The Bleeding Cool article makes no mention on what the comic store staff thought of this question. Personally, if Frank Miller directed a Justice League movie that would actually be the best and worst thing at the same time with something akin to Frank Miller’s 2002 graphic novel “The Dark Knight Strikes Again” probably being produced, which I would see probably a million times and it become my favourite movie.
I should state this is all speculation at the moment and more news will be posted if and when it develops, but I am intrigued by this thinking from Warner Bros. and I really hope they make the mistake of giving Frank Miller the biggest comic book movie since The Avengers to ruin. Or make awesome!
