At a press conference last night, Sony revealed the first superior remodel to 2009’s PS3 Slim. An even lighter, more slender “Super Slim” console that the company explains is 20 percent lighter and 25 percent smaller. The redesign will come in two configurations in the US: a $270 model with a 250GB hard drive with Uncharted 3: GOTYE available September 25, aside that a $300 model with 500GB drive with Assassin’s Creed III will be available October 30. They will come in “Classic White, and “Charcoal Black.” While running identical to the former PS3 consoles, the power supply on the new unit has been replaced with a 190W rather than 250w on the recent slim models. It is unclear as to how much of that power capacity will be used while running. Previous Slim units tend to use about 120 – 140 Watts playing a game. Sony has yet to announce a version of the new system without a game bundled in North America.
Europe is expected to be able to buy a 500GB remade system on September 28 with one of the bundled games for €299.99 and a standalone version with a 12GB flash drive, a first for PS3 hardware, will be available on October 12 for €229.99 (prices in the UK will be set by retailers). Japan will be on sale October 4th, while the white models available much later on November 22.
