The free-to-play model has been picking up lately on PCs. You’ve got to F2P MMOs, FPSs, brawlers, RTSs. You name it, there’s probably a free-to-play version of it out there somewhere. Some companies have even said that they will stop making full priced games and move exclusively to free-to-play games. Now while this model has been doing pretty well on PC, the consoles are still slow to embrace it. The PS3 has recently stepped up to plate to take a swing at free-to-play games with Dust 514, but Microsoft has still been holding out.
Well not anymore. Microsoft recently told OXM that they are going to be introducing a free-to-play program on the Xbox 360. So far only two games have been announced for the program. Happy Wars, a bizarre looking multiplayer brawler thing, and Ascend: New Gods, a bloody fantasy game that was shown off at this year’s E3.
No date on when this whole program will actually be starting, but it will be exclusive for Xbox Live Gold members.
