GaymerCon, an LGBT friendly gaming convention, started a Kickstarter last week to try to fund their first con. It was going to happen either way, according to their page, but with donations they would be able to get better things to make it more awesome. And they succeeded.
Five days into their campaign, GaymerCon had exceed their goal of $25,000, and the money kept coming in. So they decided to set up some more funding goals. If they reached $35,000 they would set up a GaymerConcert, “bringing in musicians and bands that appeal greatly to the Gaymer community.” At time of writing, they have exceeded that goal as well.
But there is still some stuff to be unlocked. If Gaymercon can get $60,000 they will be bringing in a Celebrity Boss of Honor, a gay or gay-friendly celebrity who will… do stuff, I guess. Not really clear on what that role is.
GaymerCon is a pretty cool idea and it’s great that these guys are getting so much support. You can find out more about the Con on their website and if you feel like helping out here’s a link to their Kickstarter.
The first GaymerCon is happening August 3-4, 2013, in San Francisco.
