The first collection of the Persona 4 anime series is set to release in North America next month, brought to us by Sentai Filmworks. It will come in both DVD and Blu-ray form. The DVD will have the English dub and the original Japanese voices as well as Japanese episode commentaries. The Blu-ray, on the other hand, will only have the English dub.
Sentai announced last week that the Blu-ray release of the collection would not include any of the Japanese audio, saying that the Japanese licensor of the series required the Japanese audio track to be omitted. The price of the Blu-ray has been changed to reflect this decision. Originally the Blu-ray was priced at $69.98 US, but with no Japanese audio the price has been dropped to $59.98.
Sentai also said that this release is intended for sale and use in the US and Canada only. Any exporting of the DVD or Blu-ray is prohibited.
While I will probably never buy a Blu-ray any time soon, I don’t see this as much of a problem. I have spent a lot of time with the English Persona 4 voice actors and really like them. They aren’t amazing but I have definitely heard worse, and hearing those characters speaking Japanese just seems weird to me. I have been told that not all people are as into those voice actors as I am, and I can respect that. But either way, if you’re that bugged by it you can always buy the DVD.
Persona 4 The Animation Collection 1 is coming to DVD and Blu-ray September 18th.
They probably did it because to keep the japanese people from importing the blue ray at a cheaper price seeing as how the exchange rate is 70¥ is 1.00$ and there anime is rediculous expensive Fate/Zero First season is 30000¥ but when it comes to north america it will probably be 50$ for the blue ray because all blu rays are region free it’s the same reason why persona 4 Arena is region lock for the ps3.
