A NASA employee decided to pay tribute to Portal 2 by “secretly laser engraving” an image of the space core with the caption “In spaaaaaaace!” below it onto a panel that will be going to the international space station. They then anonymously sent an image of it to Valve. It’s worth noting that NASA did not endorse this. This employee was acting entirely on their own and if found out could easily lose their job over this. Risking a job at NASA to pay tribute to Portal 2 is true fan dedication. Valve re-posted the image on their Portal 2 blog listing the character as Wheatley, however the caption points towards this actually being the space core.
