A few days ago, I brought forward the information that Dragon Ball was getting a brand spanking new anime movie with the promise of more info. Well, more info is here!
Weekly Shonen Jump revealed on July 14th that the new film would be set in between the 517th and 518th issues of the manga or, for those not following in the manga, just after the end of the battle with Majin Buu. More specifically, the movie will take place in the “lost decade” in between the two issues; therefore, everything that happens will be part of the Dragon Ball canon, instead of a spin off. You can expect familiar faces a la Piccolo, Vegeta, and the gang to show up in the movie as well, and if you’re worried about the writing, Akira Toriyama, the author of Dragon Ball, has been closely involved with the production from the early screenwriting stage.
So fear not! All indications point to it being the Dragon Ball you know and love.
