Prequel Series for Arkham City Announced
There are many games out there nowadays that use transmedia storytelling to help expand the universe: Dead Space, Gears of War, Halo, Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed, Prototype, Kane and Lynch (which, if everything I heard about the games is right, works much better as a comic property), just to name a few. But now a video game tie-in comic has been announced that makes the most sense out of all of these…. A Batman: Arkham City prequel mini-series.
According to DC’s The Source blog, this new six-issue mini-series will bridge the one year gap between Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, showing Quincy Sharp’s rise to be Mayor of Gotham and the formation of the titular Arkham City. The mini-series will be written by the man who wrote both the games as well as episodes of Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited and Freakazoid! (FUCK YEAH! FREAKAZOID!) Paul Dini with from Carlos D’anda, a contributing artist for both Arkham games, DC Universe Online and many of the series under the Wildstorm label. In between the releases of each issue, an 8-page “digital-first” interlude will be put out for $0.99 each. They will focus on some of Batman’s enemies as they try to gain power in Arkham City.
Issues 1 and 2 of Batman: Arkham City will be double-shipping in May for $2.99 each. Issue 1 will have a variant cover using some in-game graphics so cross your fingers you get a hold of that.
